Chapter 102: Drifting Away
Destiny's Dominion · 第一零二章 飘然
After Li Mochen drove away from the motel in his Lotus 350, Kermit Colinson withdrew his gaze from the window.
"What do you think of our young master? 'Young master'—that's the term over in Huaxia, right?"
"Personally, I have a decent impression."
Laurence said with a simple smile: "Didn't Atai find out about the Rising Sun Company? The company's situation is improving. Even though he's been targeted by Miss Jennifer and that Antonio, the company hasn't been thrown into chaos. My only worry now is the legitimate business he plans to do—"
"Worried he's aiming too high?"
Kermit frowned: "In America, legitimate business is actually the hardest to do—worse than smuggling. Ordinary work won't earn enough to support us. Even Mr. Li found it tough."
"I don't think we need to overthink it. Didn't the young master make it clear? Give him a year, then see how things go."
Li Tailai said as he took his coat from the hanger and put it on: "You're not planning to break your promise to Mr. Li, are you? Besides, America can't be more dangerous than those tropical jungles in Southeast Asia."
"That's true."
Kermit spread his hands with a wry smile: "Mr. Li worked hard to build up our force. I sincerely hope the young master can hold things together. Hmm, Atai, are you heading out?"
"That's right!"
Li Tailai waved the sticky note in his hand: "I'm going to find this Dandy Hancock. It's the first task the BOSS gave me. I don't want to disappoint his expectations."
…
Li Mochen, now driving on the road, was in a distracted state. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn't help dividing his attention—steering the Lotus 350 with one hand while taking the 'Divine Firmament Purple-Gold Pagoda of Fortune' out of his sword bag with the other.
Earlier, when he met those three, the object had vibrated for about half a quarter-hour. Inconvenienced by the setting, Li Mochen had held back from checking it. Now, as he took out the pagoda, he saw that the base of its tower had indeed turned a pale gold.
A hint of joy surfaced in Li Mochen's eyes. He knew this meant that, after taking over the company and gathering the men Li Chunchu had left behind, he had formed a certain 'momentum,' which in turn had prompted the 'Divine Firmament Purple-Gold Pagoda of Fortune' to recover and enhance some of its power.
—Though the pagoda's change was slight, with only the base covered in pale gold, before he left the Primordial Vault, he had only managed to turn all nine tiers pale gold. The base had only just taken on a thin layer of purple-gold, far from the pagoda's full potential.
Yet even so, the pagoda's function was still that of a divine artifact, capable of letting him challenge and even kill a true god across levels.
Now, this pale gold on the pagoda could not only greatly enhance the upper limit of the 'Wish Spell' but also stabilize his own fortune, ensuring his luck never fell below a certain threshold in the future.
"Pity, though I've gathered momentum, I have no merit."
Li Mochen shook his head and stuffed the pagoda back into the sword bag. Then he stepped on the accelerator, gradually speeding up the sports car.
So far, the merit light within the pagoda was only enough for him to use the Wish Spell four times.
That girl Lina was quite effective, providing one Wish Spell per week. The problem was that his source of merit was too scarce, so the 'Divine Firmament Purple-Gold Pagoda of Fortune' still had little and dry rainbow light.
Without sufficient merit, the pagoda's help to him was quite limited.
Thus, his top priority was to find ways to gather more merit light. Dandy Hancock of the Bloodfang Gang was a good target—the man was already evil and would surely commit every atrocity in the future. Killing him would surely bring him a good amount of merit.
Judging by Li Tailai's expression at the time, he didn't seem troubled. It appeared he didn't think finding Hancock was a difficult task.
So Li Mochen was in a very cheerful mood. Perhaps because his soul had merged with the original owner's remnant, leaving a severe mental flaw, he felt completely elated. Unconsciously, he let his Lotus 350 exceed the speed limit, attracting three police cars to tail him.
Fortunately, the Ice and Snow Stone Necklace helped Li Mochen regain his composure in time. He chose not to flee but obediently pulled over to the side of the street.
A patrolman came over to check his license. After looking at it, his expression turned serious, and he stared intently at Li Mochen.
"Andre Li Wiltenstein?"
He handed back the license with a hint of respect: "You were speeding, sir. Since you were only 15% over the limit, I'll let you off with a warning this time—no fine or points. I hope you'll take this as a lesson, sir. Downtown Atlanta is no place for street racing, understand?"
Another officer, who had picked up the Little Netherfire Dragon and was checking its tag, shrugged when he heard 'Wiltenstein' and put the dragon down.
He didn't think the magical pet license was fake. Was it strange for a Wiltenstein to keep a dragon breed?
Li Mochen was deeply introspecting, bitterly laughing to himself. What was he thinking? Blooming at the slightest sunshine? Where was his usual composure? Letting his guard down over a little good news?
This time, it was just a warning from the patrol. But if something similar happened at a critical moment, what would he do?
So by the time Li Mochen returned to Unicorn Apartment, he had adjusted his mood to a calm state. As he got out of the car and headed for the elevator, he noticed workers loading building materials into the freight elevator.
Li Mochen glanced casually and saw that the materials were all high-end decoration supplies. Among the workers were two magic-energy professionals of no low rank. Initially, he paid little attention, but when he reached the top floor, he heard Qi Tai, whose expression had visibly relaxed, say: "BOSS, there's something you should know. In the three days we were in the Dark World, someone bought all four floors below us. They're renovating now, using eco-friendly materials. They'll probably move in within a month or two."
Li Mochen was startled: "All four floors from 35 to 38? Including our surveillance room?"
"Except for our two rooms. The buyer kindly left us a corridor."
Qi Tai looked incredulous: "They say it cost over twelve million gold shields, far above the local property prices. The buyer didn't care about money—offered nearly double the price, just to get the residents on those floors to move out quickly. It's insane—"
After all, when their Nathan Sports Group bought these two floors, it only cost three and a half million gold shields, though they spent a lot on decoration.
Li Mochen also marveled. Where did this rich person come from, treating gold shields like nothing? Why not give him those millions?
But this probably had nothing to do with him. He didn't know any of the neighbors downstairs and likely never would.
"If you have time, you can look into our new neighbors—find out what kind of people they are. But be polite, of course."
After saying this, Li Mochen headed straight for the meditation room.
He had already planned to break through to Level 5 tonight when he left the Dark World. Today's experiences had given him ample confidence.
Judging by his luck today, it was undoubtedly strong. Li Mochen believed that his upcoming 'Observing the Spirit and Fixing the Star' would go very smoothly.
