Chapter 110: Inquiry
Destiny's Dominion · 第一一零章 问询
Mike Ross arrived at the scene just twelve minutes later, where many medical personnel were now carrying the men whose limbs Li Mochen had broken onto ambulances one by one.
Qi Tai had not lied to Li Mochen; the few who had escaped either broke their limbs while fleeing or were shot by the police.
"So, this was a premeditated assault, correct? A group of vicious thugs armed with weapons intended to beat and harm my client, and Andre was merely acting in self-defense?"
Mike Ross felt this case was hardly a challenge at all—practically free money.
"So, when do you plan to release Andre? Mr. York, my client is an honor student at Lyndon Academy with a GPA of 3.7, and he committed no wrongdoing. As for those guys—"
Mike pointed toward the ambulances: "That bunch is a pack of drug-dealing, crime-ridden scumbags. I heard you found quite a bit of narcotics on them? And one turned into a monster? My God! Mr. York, can you promise me you'll handle this fairly?"
"I know, I know! Based on the scene, Andre indeed did nothing wrong, and there's even video footage."
York, the deputy chief of the Atlanta East District Police Department, rubbed his half-bald head in frustration: "But at least let us go back to the station and take your statement first, okay?"
At that moment, Li Mochen was shaking hands with Colin Damon, head of the East District Police's Anti-Gang Unit: "Thank you, Inspector Damon. I heard that after Qi Tai reported the situation to you, you arrived in less than three minutes."
"It's our duty, Mr. Wiltonshire. And judging by the scene, even without us, you would have walked away unscathed."
In America, the Anti-Gang, Anti-Drug, and Major Crimes units are often the most elite divisions of a police department, with most members being Outlaws. They are typically known for being unruly. Yet Colin Damon, while not exactly deferential, was approachable and even somewhat warm toward Li Mochen.
This was not solely due to the Nathan Sports Group behind the youth, but also because of the strength he had displayed, which commanded respect.
Those with fifth-level magic profession strength were nothing—none could withstand a single blow from the youth's steel rod.
And the dying monster, based on Colin Damon's observations, was likely close to an Outlaw in strength.
So, as he had said earlier, even if they hadn't arrived, Mr. Wiltonshire here could have walked away unscathed.
Beyond that, the youth's surname also made him wary. A century ago, before antitrust laws, the Wiltonshires held a status akin to royalty in Atlanta, co-ruling all of Georgia with the Vanderlinden family.
Even now, the Wiltonshire family remains a crucial piece in the political landscape of all America.
"But this time I was just lucky. What if I'd faced an opponent I couldn't handle?"
Li Mochen smiled: "I saw what happened earlier. Consider this a favor I owe you."
He had witnessed several Anti-Gang members stuffing drugs into the pockets of those thugs.
The body's original owner was deeply uncomfortable with this scene, but Wen Jian Taoran greatly appreciated it. These men's style of operation was quite similar to his own.
However, his reason for ingratiating himself with Colin Damon was not just 'gratitude' but also to expand his network.
"If you don't mind, could you give me a phone number or contact address? My family runs a company, and I might need your help with something in the future."
Inspector Damon had no problem with that. As he pulled a notepad from his pocket, Qi Tai beside him looked thoughtfully at the lizard monster being lifted onto a special stretcher.
"Damon, what exactly is that? I've never seen anything like it."
"That guy took Beast Blood Essence, a type of alchemical potion. It first appeared on the West Coast and has now spread to our Georgia."
Chief Damon smiled bitterly: "I don't know who invented it, but it's become widespread in America. Many gangs are experimenting with it on a large scale. With luck, they occasionally produce one or two loyal and obedient Beast Blood Warriors. They're very strong. I suspect he used Beast Blood Type III, the newest variant, which has changed from a liquid to a pill form for easier carrying. I've heard it has a higher success rate and produces stronger fighters afterward. Since it's the newest type, the FBI, federal police, and several other intelligence agencies are investigating it. So I expect this case will soon be out of our hands. This Sampson is likely the first Type III Beast Blood Warrior discovered in Atlanta."
He then glanced in a certain direction: "See, they're here."
Li Mochen followed his gaze and saw a convoy of FBI cars slowly entering the garage.
He also spotted Louise Lyndon's luxury car, a Rolls-Royce Ghost.
This young lady had actually bypassed the police cordon and entered the scene directly, making Li Mochen reflect on the power of the privileged class in this world.
...
It wasn't until two and a half hours later that Li Mochen managed to extricate himself from the police station.
This was because, after arriving at the station, it wasn't just the local police and the FBI who wanted to question him. The Secret Service under the Department of Homeland Security, the Drug Enforcement Administration under the Department of Justice, and others all came in succession, trying to take his statement.
Fortunately, the Nathan Sports Group's influence was strong enough, and Mike Ross, though inexperienced, skillfully used the law as a weapon to reject all unreasonable demands on Li Mochen's behalf.
Additionally, Louise Lyndon—this young lady from the Lyndon family—insisted on observing the entire process on behalf of the school, ensuring that their students were not treated unfairly.
Thus, the interrogators from various departments were fairly polite. They had already determined that Li Mochen knew little; today's proceedings were merely routine.
Their attention had shifted to the gravely wounded Sampson and the thugs.
"I think they should go directly to Dandy Hancock and the Bloodfang Gang."
Li Mochen, walking out of the police station accompanied by Colin Damon, said with some irritation: "Honestly, this feels pointless and a waste of time."
"I understand what you mean, Andre, but we need sufficient evidence to move against Dandy Hancock. Whether it's a search, assisting an investigation, or a direct arrest, it all requires approval from the prosecutor. In fact, even if Sampson regains consciousness, it will be hard to implicate Dandy Hancock. He has a hundred ways to evade responsibility."
Colin Damon shrugged helplessly: "It sounds absurd and infuriating, but that's the rule of law. We have to follow procedures. Though it often gives us headaches, if government law enforcement agencies don't abide by the rules, society would fall into chaos."
He then glanced covertly at Louise Lyndon: "Actually, there's no need to worry too much about that guy. I doubt he'll live long. I've heard some people in the underworld are already looking for him. News should come soon."
Louise Lyndon, walking beside them, was noncommittal. She said directly to Li Mochen: "Andre, go home and rest. I have other matters to attend to and will be leaving. Don't worry, the Lyndon family won't allow this incident to involve you further—whether from the underworld or the authorities."
Li Mochen sensed the firmness in her tone, narrowed his eyes, and stared fixedly at Louise Lyndon.
Then he flashed a grin: "If that's the case, then so much the better. I hate trouble, Miss Lyndon."
