Chapter 115: Spoils of War
Destiny's Dominion · 第一一五章 战利
When Louise Lyndon arrived at the abandoned military barracks in the southwest of the city, where a strong magical energy reaction had occurred, in her Rolls-Royce Ghost, all the major forces of Atlanta had already gathered there. Over thirty police cars clogged the roads outside the barracks, their flashing lights spewing red and blue beams.
“Were you the first to arrive?”
Louise Lyndon asked her several security advisors: “Do you know who did it? Or have you found any clues?”
These Lyndon family operatives had indeed been the first on the scene, as they were already in the vicinity.
As for herself, she had been a bit late in setting out due to a banquet she needed to attend that evening. So she arrived half an hour later, even slower than the South City Police Department.
“Apart from picking up some bullet casings, we found very few clues. They were professionals; they cleaned up the scene in a very short time, so any clues that might reveal their identities have been destroyed.”
A bald, burly man in a suit, at least 2.3 meters tall, took off his sunglasses: “For now, we can only confirm it was a gang. While one person launched the main attack, the others cut off Hancock’s escape routes. So no one in this building survived, including Hancock himself and a little bat from the Malkavian family. I reckon the one who killed the little bat could actually exert combat power of at least 13S. Despite being at a disadvantage in speed and strength, he killed his opponent in less than two minutes.”
“Then what was their motive?”
“It wasn’t robbery, anyway. Although they took the money from the safe, you can tell they hadn’t planned for it beforehand. Also, I found drugs they spilled in the nearby sewer.”
“So these people were also after Dandy Hancock, right?”
Louise Lyndon raised an eyebrow, then said calmly, “Forget it if there are no clues. I actually hope no one finds them.”
The Lyndon family only wanted Dandy Hancock dead. Now that he was dead, Louise had no intention of tracking down the killers.
Though she was curious about their identities and regretted not killing Hancock herself.
“We guessed your attitude.”
The big man smiled: “So after we arrived, we gave them a little help. But what puzzles me is that Bloodfang’s interest in Hancock seems unusual.”
“Is that so?”
Louise’s gaze immediately swept toward a group of people across the street, outside the cordon.
There were thirty-five of them, all wearing leather vests, exposing their muscular arms and beast-fang tattoos. They were glaring at the devastated crime scene with ferocious, predatory looks.
Louise recognized them at once as Bloodfang’s men, specifically their notorious combat unit. All members had magical energy levels above ten and held the rank of Wolf Fang within Bloodfang.
To Louise’s astonishment, among them was even a man with a hand-painted Dragon Fang.
According to Bloodfang’s hierarchy, that was a genuine high-ranking officer, at least a level fifteen magical energy professional.
“It is indeed strange—”
Louise also looked puzzled, but just then she spotted a familiar figure walking toward her from a distance. It was Edmund Bederman, the FBI Atlanta City Security Group’s special agent in charge.
Louise Lyndon immediately ducked back into the car: “Since there’s nothing important, I’ll head back. Keep an eye on Bloodfang’s movements, and stop that guy for me—I don’t want to talk to him now.”
The big man glanced at the approaching Edmund Bederman, then put on his sunglasses and walked over with a few others.
As the Rolls-Royce Ghost slowly pulled away, Edmund Bederman looked helpless: “Hey! I just wanted to talk to Miss Lyndon. Using private armed forces to retaliate and kill people is illegal.”
“We know that.”
The big man replied coldly: “We did consider having Hancock killed, but this time it really has nothing to do with us.”
“But you tampered with the scene, didn’t you?”
Edmund Bederman stared coldly at the man, but through the sunglasses, he couldn’t read the rock-hard face.
“One more thing—pass this on to your lady. I suspect Hancock’s safe contained three key components of that thing—you know what I mean, right? I’m not sure who took them now; it could be the killers, or it could be you.”
The big man’s expression finally changed. His pupils contracted, and his eyes grew serious.
…
At that moment, Li Mochen was examining three objects in his hands. They appeared to be the trigger, firing pin, and bolt of a rifle, covered in strange magical patterns and emitting a cold luster.
It was clear that their material was top-notch. When Li Mochen channeled his magic into them, there was no obstruction at all. Not only did they not diminish his magic’s strength, but they actually amplified it by about twice.
Li Mochen then looked troubled: “This should be the components of a god-tier rifle. I’m not sure of the model right now.”
He hoped this wasn’t the thing that all the factions in Atlanta were looking for, though based on his judgment, it probably was.
He hadn’t expected to get caught up in this mess, nor did he understand why a minor Bloodfang leader’s safe would contain components of a god-tier rifle.
“This should be a Model 3721 Lee-Enfield rifle, the standard magical firearm of America during World War I, and also the main weapon of the American army in World War II. But this is clearly not an official product; it’s a handcrafted replica by a master alchemist.”
Li Tailai’s face was a bit pale, but his tone was normal: “I heard that the artifact stolen from the Vondrick family was ‘Dragon’s Might,’ found in a Dark World battlefield ruin three months ago. It’s a replica of the Model 3721 Lee-Enfield, a god-tier firearm from World War I owned by a demigod.”
“In any case, it’s a huge hassle!”
Li Mochen sighed, then pushed the spoils in front of him—including the two level-nine magical pistols and a total of 120,000 gold shields—over to Li Tailai and the others.
“Get rid of these things for me. Best to bury them in a hidden place or dump them in the sea. As for the gold shields and gold, check if they have any markings. If not, take them to Southeast Asia to use. Be careful these next few days; I suspect all transportation in Atlanta will be under tight surveillance.”
He felt a pang of regret for these items, aching to the core.
He had originally thought he could use the two level-nine magical pistols, and the rest could be sold on the black market for over a hundred thousand gold shields. But now that they were tangled up with ‘Dragon’s Might,’ he had to handle things differently.
Li Tailai exchanged glances with the Colinsons, then they all began packing up the items.
These ‘spoils’ were indeed a big problem. If they had known, they would have left them there from the start. But at the time, they didn’t know that the sealed box they took from the safe contained components of the god-tier artifact ‘Dragon’s Might.’
“We’ll fly back to Jakarta the day after tomorrow and return in about twenty days. That should be enough to let the heat die down, and we can take care of things over there. During this time, Boss, you must be careful too. Especially with those things in your hands—they might have tracking methods.”
Li Tailai gave Li Mochen a deep look, then walked into the darkness without hesitation. The Colinsons followed closely, wasting no time.
Li Mochen watched them leave, then spread the two bat wings behind him, leaped from the railing into the high-rise, and glided swiftly through the night sky.
