Chapter 161: Thrilling Danger
Destiny's Dominion · 第一六一章 惊险
The 'Brutal Annihilator' in Qi Tai's hands fired in time, and the real rocket-propelled grenades chased to within less than a hundred meters of the vehicle's rear, blasting them into two balls of flame.
But immediately after, a sky-obscuring barrage of countless autocannon rounds swept toward them from behind.
'Drive in a serpentine pattern, remember to change course so they can't lock onto us. We need to watch out for snipers; I hear their two outlaw-level marksmen are extremely skilled. See that hill ahead? We can use that terrain to shake them off. In terms of cornering speed and chassis, none of their vehicles can match ours.'
As Chu Siguo spoke, he handed the steering wheel to Brent Goodman beside him. The latter's driving skills were inferior to his, rated only B+ level in the Cobra unit. But at this moment, all they needed to do was keep accelerating and fleeing across the open field, which Brent could manage.
And at this time, having him, a sharpshooter, take a firing position would greatly improve their situation.
Elisa also entered the autocannon position, manning another 'Brutal Annihilator' to lay down suppressive fire. Her task was to assist Qi Tai, weaving a curtain of fire left and right above the vehicle to shred incoming rockets, preventing enemy vehicles from overtaking on either side or attempting to close in.
Even so, some autocannon rounds still struck the rear of the Teuton vehicle, causing its armor to emit a continuous 'bang bang' sound. The vehicle's defensive arrays were activated to their maximum, yet visible dents appeared one after another on the rear armor.
Qi Tai's autocannon position was the hardest hit; within forty seconds, ten autocannon rounds struck the shield plate in succession. Fortunately, this area was a key defensive point of the magical array, and though the armor plate was battered beyond recognition, Qi Tai himself remained unharmed.
Chu Siguo, holding a magic-energy automatic rifle at the firing position, continuously spat streams of fire. Amid the torrential rain of bullets, two figures were rapidly approaching at supersonic speeds exceeding 1,400 kilometers per hour, like thunder and lightning. They stirred up piercing sonic booms along the way, their momentum astonishing.
However, under the barrage of Chu Siguo's automatic rifle, the two had no choice but to slow down.
Chu Siguo's marksmanship was extremely precise, and the supersonic speed of 1,400 km/h clashing with rifle bullets traveling at nearly Mach 8 was too much even for these outlaws with source-force armor. They had to reduce their speed to below 300 km/h to avoid being shredded by Chu Siguo's automatic rifle.
Jeremy Burt and Li Mochen's sniper rifles were also firing, targeting the easier-to-hit off-road vehicles. Jeremy, positioned on the roof, directly attacked the driver's seats. Several top-tier heavy armor-piercing rounds continuously penetrated the enemy vehicle interiors, though they failed to actually harm the drivers, they successfully forced the vehicles to slow down significantly.
Li Mochen fired through the vehicle's firing ports. His Butler sniper rifle was far less powerful than Jeremy Burt's, but his bullets were more threatening. He blew up the fuel tanks of two light off-road vehicles and shot the driver of another through the brain. While moving targets within a kilometer range were still difficult, it was much easier than the previous sniping from twenty kilometers away.
Forty seconds later, the three enemy magic-energy tanks had rotated their turrets toward the south. But before they could open fire, the Teuton vehicle had already turned behind the hill, creating a physical barrier between them and the Fenrir Hunting Group.
Fifteen minutes later, the Teuton vehicle, weaving through these hills, had shaken off all the heavy armored vehicles in pursuit, just as Chu Siguo had predicted.
Now only the light off-road vehicles could match the Teuton's speed. But Elisa and Qi Tai's 25mm 'Brutal Annihilators' easily tore them apart.
After destroying three pursuing off-road vehicles in succession, the Fenrir Hunting Group finally gave up. When the Teuton vehicle had raced forty kilometers across the plain and spotted the lighthouses of Ghost City ahead, everyone on board breathed a sigh of relief. Except for Brent Goodman, who was driving, everyone else collapsed into their seats.
'Bastards!'
Qi Tai's arms were cut by shrapnel, and his right shoulder was hit by a sniper round. As Chu Siguo helped bandage him, he cursed loudly, 'They ruined a lot of our snake meat.'
Fortunately, it was snake meat; they had placed the cheaper snake meat on the roof, with only a small portion of dragon meat up there. Otherwise, it would have been heartbreaking.
'I suggest you all stay out of the Dark World for the next few months. The Fenrir Hunting Group always repays grudges in kind. We've really offended them this time, and their boss will find a way to retaliate.'
Jeremy Burt said bitterly, 'Their methods are very vicious; I've had several friends die at their hands. Of course, if you, boss, could have seven Teuton vehicles like this, about thirty Cobra unit members, and two or three outlaw-level magic-energy professionals to hold the fort, then you wouldn't have to fear them. Though their three magic-energy tanks are terrifying in power, their speed is only a little over 100 km/h. As long as you don't confront them head-on, you can basically match them.'
Elisa looked crestfallen, knowing Jeremy was telling the truth. Over the past decade, many independent professionals had indeed died at the hands of the Fenrir Hunting Group. The group's methods were ruthless, and their desire for revenge was overwhelming. From now on, she wouldn't dare to venture into the wild, and even walking in Ghost City would carry some risk.
This meant she was out of a job in Atlanta, unless she moved to another big city and entered the Dark World through a different magic-energy portal.
Fortunately, she would at least pocket over a million this time. The Fenrir Hunting Group had many enemies in Atlanta and was weak in the Light World; otherwise, she would regret it so much she'd bang her head against the wall.
Li Mochen looked thoughtful. 'Can you tell me more about this Fenrir Hunting Group? It sounds utterly evil.'
'It's a hunting group that rose to prominence twelve years ago. The leader's alias is Fenrir the Demon Wolf, said to be an outlaw-level powerhouse close to legendary. He spent three years gathering a large number of thugs in Ghost City and forged a hunting group that stops at nothing. It has about two thousand members, usually split into three teams operating independently. Although these guys primarily hunt magical creatures, almost every two or three days, a magic-energy professional dies at their hands, and their methods are extremely cruel. They usually nail their enemies to crosses and then attract vultures to bite them alive. Ghost City's prosecutors have filed dozens of charges against them, but they can't do anything to Fenrir. The crime scenes are usually more than two hundred kilometers outside Ghost City, in so-called lawless areas. Even when evidence is occasionally caught, they have people step forward to take the blame—'
As Chu Siguo explained to Li Mochen, the Teuton vehicle had already entered Ghost City. Jeremy Burt got off before entering the city gate, while Brent slowly drove the vehicle into a parking lot designated by Jeremy.
About twelve minutes later, the transaction was complete. Li Mochen and the others collected a check for 13.4 million gold shields from the Atlanta Community Bank, and then most of the items on the vehicle were carried away.
Jeremy took 12%, which was 1.656 million gold shields, while Li Mochen took 52% of the remaining 11.8 million gold shields, which was 6.315 million gold shields. Of that, 400,000 had already been exchanged for dragon crystals, dragon horns, and the beast crystal of the Mountain-Swallowing Python.
Then, the spoils from Saturday's hunt were also sold for 350,000 gold shields. This money was not for Jeremy Burt; it belonged exclusively to the five of them.
After dividing the money, Li Mochen bought some materials at the Targaryen Magic Material Shop before heading together to the Light Church magic-energy portal. There, Li Mochen saw Carl Holden.
