Chapter 385: The Attack
Destiny's Dominion · 第三八五章 袭击
"Major Adams has succeeded."
In the northeastern part of Atlanta, Sampson Brute stood atop a nine-story building, observing the Ferguson Media Tower, only three hundred meters away, through the binoculars in his hands.
Beside him, Lind Emers's eyes flickered with a dark light: "They destroyed the warehouse of the Medlon printing plant, and at least half of the machinery over there."
"I've seen it."
Even if Lind hadn't spoken, Sampson Brute could see the blazing fire in the distance.
"But they've strengthened their defenses. This building originally had ten outlaws stationed permanently, but now it's increased to twenty-six, including one whose strength reaches quasi-legendary. Additionally, their defensive array has been reinforced. With this level of defense, forget about whether we can storm it—just dealing with the police and the FBI is impossible. A TV station under attack is a social incident. This means we have to solve the problem within three minutes of opening fire, otherwise—"
"So, we can't complete the mission, is that it?"
"No, our target is only to destroy the cable room inside, not to breach the entire building. And now, we need the right timing."
Sampson Brute's expression was calm: "Our current advantage is that we have as many as five 17S-level sharpshooters. And now, Mandeville Ferguson's convoy is heading this way. My subordinates tell me that his convoy will arrive here in at most three minutes."
"You plan to attack Mandeville directly?"
Lind was astonished: "I think unless the BOSS strikes personally, our chances of success are slim. The problem is still time—"
When it came to a figure like Mandeville Ferguson, the local police and FBI couldn't just stand by.
And Mandeville's personal defenses were quite formidable. According to their intelligence, he had recently hired a legendary-level shield warrior as his personal bodyguard through the Red Sparrow Club.
Of course, even with a legendary-level protector, Lind was confident he could take down Mandeville. But he believed that even with the help of many top snipers, he would need at least four minutes.
But as Lind spoke, he suddenly realized: "I see. A diversion to draw the tiger from the mountain, right?"
"I have to earn my salary and the BOSS's trust."
Sampson smiled slightly: "Mr. Emers, I have a well-thought-out tactic. Later, you just need to cooperate with me and apply enough pressure on the target."
Three minutes passed in an instant, and Mandeville Ferguson's convoy soon drove onto the street.
Perhaps due to the death of Deron Wittenstein, the president of Ferguson Media Group had changed his vehicle. He had abandoned his previous 'Holy Shield' and instead rode in a sturdier off-road armored vehicle.
It was a 'Titan Sky Defender' produced by Edison Company, one of the civilian armored vehicle models with the highest defensive capabilities currently available.
Sampson watched coldly until he saw the convoy of seven armored vehicles slowly stop at an intersection due to a red light, then he gave the order.
"Attention all units, action begins!"
At that instant, from the high-rise buildings all around, no fewer than twenty gunshots rang out.
The armored vehicles at the front and rear had their wheel hubs blown out directly. Some sniper bullets penetrated straight into the armored vehicles, causing shrapnel to fly and flesh and blood to splatter inside.
The many security personnel inside these armored vehicles also pushed open the doors and leaped out at the first moment.
"Confirmed: Wheel hub of Vehicle One destroyed!"
"Target Twenty-Three neutralized."
"Target Fifteen wounded, estimated combat ineffective."
"Attention, Target Nine has left the vehicle and is seeking a firing position."
"Target Seven dead! Note: Targets Ten and Thirteen have retreated under the vehicle."
With the constant communications over the walkie-talkie, the armored convoy on the street was completely suppressed. Sampson's force of twenty-two shooters, despite varying skill levels, perfectly suppressed the enemy's firepower, causing wisps of blood mist to drift across the street.
In the back seat of the 'Titan Sky Defender', Mandeville Ferguson held his head, his face already panicked.
Especially as the windows and body of the vehicle repeatedly emitted heavy 'bang, bang' sounds, Mandeville's lips turned purple. His right hand trembled as he took out his mobile phone, but just as he tried to dial someone's number, the man sitting next to him, wearing a red jacket, cast a sidelong glance at him.
"Calling your company for help, right? I advise you to think carefully. Their strength is indeed formidable, but this vehicle is, after all, a 'Titan Sky Defender'. They can't break through its defenses for now."
Mandeville calmed down a little, a glimmer of hope in his eyes: "I want to know, how long is 'for now'?"
"Fifteen min—"
Before the man in red could finish, a fiery red ray struck the body of the armored off-road vehicle from the southeast. The tens of thousands of degrees of heat not only penetrated the magical defense array outside the vehicle, partially melting the left window, but also sharply raised the temperature inside.
"That's a legendary-level Scorching Ray above level twenty-five!"
The man in red's face grew serious: "I estimate we can hold out for at most another two hundred and fourteen seconds, about three and a half minutes!"
At that moment, he placed his hand on the window, covering it with a layer of black energy. Just then, two bullets struck in succession, nearly shattering the energy he had laid down. Even the window glass suffered some damage, leaving two conspicuous bullet marks.
Mandeville Ferguson hesitated no longer and continued dialing.
"Damn it! How long are you going to watch from inside the building? Notify the security department—anyone who can come out, get out here and help! Do you want to see me die? AH?"
At this moment, 'Desert Magic Gun' Kamela Natasha was also cursing.
"What the hell! I never knew this 'Titan Sky Defender' was this tough. A turtle shell?"
"Its price is 22 million gold shields—you get what you pay for."
In Natasha's earpiece came the voice of Sky Eye Howard Eisenhower: "I don't believe none of your past targets included military Titan armored vehicles. According to Edison Company's official claims, their defensive strength is the same."
"I know, I know—"
At this point, Natasha squinted and changed the subject: "Howard, your fingers have recovered, right? The marksmanship you showed today is much better than before. That's not just because of the stronger sniper rifle."
"I knew you'd ask. There's nothing to hide. It's a gift from the BOSS—a drop of 'Amphitrite's Tears'."
Howard Eisenhower's voice was complex: "Our employer is very generous, but also has high demands on his subordinates. I am now his property, Natasha."
"Wow! Amphitrite's Tears—you bastard, you've already reached level eighteen."
Natasha's eyes were full of envy. If she could have a drop of 'Amphitrite's Tears', she would also be willing to be the BOSS's 'private property' for a few decades.
Just then, Sampson Brute's voice rang out simultaneously in their earpieces: "Shut up, you two! Start retreating, before the FBI arrives."
So the two of them simultaneously looked toward the nearby Ferguson Building, and saw that on the seventeenth floor, a burst of fire first flared, then a violent shockwave spread, and clouds of black smoke continuously rolled out from within.
