Chapter 54: The Boundary Array

Destiny's Dominion · 第五十四章 界阵

"Should we call the police now?"

After Li Mochen left, Mike Ross asked Specter in a low voice: "Harvey, I think the security guards in the building shouldn't have gone off duty yet."

"Since you mentioned the security company, it means you've realized the danger, haven't you?"

Specter coldly glared at his associate lawyer: "Tell me, Lawyer Ross, do we have enough evidence to convict him now? I bet that corpse can no longer be found. And he did act in self-defense, didn't he? Our testimony probably won't do much against him. Even if we could get him locked up, how many years would he serve? Besides, he's still a Wiltonshire! So have you thought through the consequences of offending this guy? Even if you move away later and disappear, our law firm can't move. If something happens, who will pay for your grandmother's astronomical medical bills, my dear Mike?"

"I think so too, but you're the boss after all."

Mike Ross shrugged: "I feel you're too cautious and too subservient in front of him, Harvey. That's not like you. It might make him look down on you. Have you forgotten? You carry that magical artifact with you, even a twelfth-level Outlaw can't do anything to you."

Specter's face immediately showed embarrassment; the guy was clearly accusing him of being a coward.

"Are you sure, Mike? This guy killed an eighth-level Magic Hermit in thirty seconds using only an unsharpened training steel sword. Damn, he's only sixteen! So are you sure my magical artifact can withstand his magic gun? That should be an alloy warhammer, right?"

"But I guess the chance of him firing was low; he didn't have a silencer."

Mike laughed: "That guy definitely didn't want to alert the nearby police. If he did that, it would be attempted murder, and we could send him away for over twenty years."

"Very reasonable."

Specter sneered: "But tell me, Mike, when did you think of that? And who was it that failed to reverse into the alley three times in a row? Attempted murder, huh? Do you think you'd survive if he fired? Or dare you bet he was just bluffing?"

Mike Ross was left speechless, while Specter impatiently stuffed the contract into his arms: "Enough! Remember to wait for him at Linden Academy at three o'clock on Monday afternoon. Dress sharply, wear your best suit. Ross, do you know the value of this client? Nathan Sports Group has clearly unearthed this gem. If nothing unexpected happens, I think within a year or two, he'll become one of our firm's biggest clients. Don't you want to become a partner? This might be your chance, Mike."

"Alright, for my partnership. So that's the key, right? He's our future cash cow?"

"Exactly! I have a feeling we'll get millions of gold shields from him."

Specter straightened his collar, ready to leave for the day: "Looks like today's your lucky day. And those fools downstairs will eventually realize they missed a huge gold mine, much bigger than Blood Hand Antonio. So Mike, your service must satisfy him, understand?"

...

At six the next morning, Li Mochen prepared carefully and then hurried out.

This was certainly not for going to work; the job at Cai's Chinese restaurant was definitely lost. William had called the restaurant four days ago, and the manager there expressed regret, saying they had found a new waiter.

Originally, William Jacques wanted to meet him this weekend to look for a new job together, but Li Mochen refused. He had now roughly figured out this world and found his own way to make money; working for others was his last option.

After leaving, Li Mochen first circled through the complex alleys as usual until he shook off the tail behind him, then entered the subway station and took the train.

His destination this time was the Atlanta Wood Cathedral of Light in the center of Atlanta.

The Atlanta Wood Cathedral of Light covers about 700 acres. Apart from the massive, magnificent Baroque-style main structure at the center, the rest of the land is mostly lawns and gardens, open as a park for pedestrians to enter and enjoy.

Li Mochen had no interest in the scenery. He quickly walked into the cathedral, pretended to pray with the other Light believers, then approached the duty priest and handed over 1,000 gold shields.

"You want to go to the Dark World?"

The duty priest looked at Li Mochen in surprise: "Sir, I must remind you that it's an extremely dangerous place. Although the area around Ghost City has been cleared, many dark creatures still lurk. It's no place for fun; you'd be in mortal danger at any moment. You're too young, sir. For your own safety, I refuse to provide this service."

Li Mochen sighed inwardly and handed over his driver's license: "Father, of course I know it's dangerous there."

The duty priest took it, glanced at it, and his expression became uncertain.

"Andrew Lee Wiltonshire?"

"As you might have guessed."

Li Mochen's face showed a proud smile: "Yes, Father, I think I can take responsibility for my life."

"Alright, alright! I know your Wiltonshire family has people, guns, strongholds, and assets over there. Here's your pass token; take this to the Sealing Hall next door."

The duty priest handed Li Mochen an iron token with magic runes while muttering: "I really don't understand why your Wiltonshire family has its own magic boundary array but comes to use ours at the church."

Li Mochen didn't answer, just smiled knowingly and left with the pass.

The Sealing Hall was to the left of the cathedral, also a magnificent building. Built eight hundred years ago, its stone walls were full of traces of time.

It was said that in the early days when the New Continent was first opened, there was a huge spatial rift here, causing a large number of dark creatures to continuously pour into the Bright World, becoming the greatest threat to immigrants in Georgia. So the New Church of Light spent a huge cost to seal the rift and built a church here, naming it Atlanta Wood.

And this Sealing Hall was the location of that spatial rift.

It was also one of the main entrances to the Dark World in Atlanta. Although the fee was high, it was safe.

After all, not every magic boundary array could safely transport people to the Dark World.

After entering, Li Mochen used the pass token and, led by an acolyte, entered the magic boundary array.

A group of people was already waiting there, almost all magic professionals, men and women of all ages, all dressed sharply.

Some of them looked sideways at Li Mochen's arrival, showing surprise. One young woman with a free and easy temperament, beautiful and heroic, with a body as fit as a cheetah, even whistled: "Hey, pretty boy, how old are you? Reached magic level five yet? Planning to feed the dark creatures? What a pity to waste such good skin. How about this: today you just... I'll be your bodyguard for the day, okay?"

This remark triggered a burst of laughter and more whistles. Li Mochen ignored her, walked to a corner of the array, sat down, closed his eyes, and said nothing. The woman teased him a few more times, but seeing Li Mochen remain as still as a wooden figure, she lost interest and turned her attention elsewhere.

After ten minutes, when the number of people reached thirty, an attending priest entered the array, and the magic boundary array gradually emitted a spiritual light.
