Chapter 83: The Great Battle
Destiny's Dominion · 第八十三章 大战
Thanks to his in-depth study of the new Atlanta map, Li Mochen took only seven minutes to reach the vicinity of Russell Avenue.
He took shortcuts the entire way, or directly scaled walls and leaped across rooftops. His arrival time was not much slower than Louise Lyndon's convoy.
Just as he was about to climb a fifteen-story building to gain a vantage point, he heard a sudden thunderous roar from two kilometers away—a dull, immense sound that pierced the eardrums, and a surging gale of wind swept over like a tide.
Li Mochen turned his gaze toward the sound and saw a scene of lightning and thunder, crimson flames shooting into the sky, small houses collapsing, and gray-black smoke and dust beginning to spread through the air. Continuous gunfire echoed across the entire sky of Atlanta.
Li Mochen did not approach rashly. Instead, he formed a hand seal, guided his external elixir with his mind, and gathered a mass of spiritual light into his eyes. The Primordial Dome also had techniques similar to Eagle Eye, and there were many varieties. The one he was using now was a fire-type technique called 'Fire Eye Peering into Truth,' which could roughly achieve the effect of a ten-power telescope.
His already solemn expression grew even more grave. With just the 'Fire Eye Peering into Truth' technique, he could discern three battlefields, with at least fifteen Outlaws fighting in pairs in that area.
The surrounding buildings were clearly buckling under the boiling magical energy and raging source power impacts. The nearby high-rises looked especially dangerous. Although layers of magical energy defensive arrays had been activated to their fullest extent, the glass curtain walls on the outer layers of the buildings had already shattered and collapsed under the pressure. The massive structures themselves trembled slightly, as if on the verge of collapsing at any moment.
Li Mochen's mind grew cold, but he also felt puzzled.
He had already spotted Rosia, standing at the very center of the battlefield ruins, holding two revolvers and engaging in a fierce struggle with three Outlaws. Each shot had the force of cannon fire, and even outnumbered three to one, he was not at a disadvantage.
But what Li Mochen couldn't understand was why these people weren't using 'Dark Realm Talismans' to transfer the battlefield to the Dark World. With the Medici family's wealth, they shouldn't be lacking such items. Or had they used them but been blocked? That wasn't impossible—any spell had a corresponding countermeasure, and 'Dark Realm Talismans' were likely no exception.
No sooner had this thought crossed his mind than he saw a holy, vast white light from the center of Atlanta covering the eastern part of the city.
Before that, a semicircular black curtain had spread around Rosia, blocking everyone's view.
When the black curtain dissipated, Rosia, his three opponents, and the other magical energy professionals who had been exchanging fire nearby had all vanished without a trace.
Then, at the other two battlefields, bowl-shaped black curtains appeared, covering areas with a diameter of one hundred meters. Those Outlaws also completely disappeared from Li Mochen's sight after about three seconds.
Even Louise Lyndon's convoy was no exception. When a black curtain there dissipated, most of the figures in the vehicles, including Louise herself, had vanished. Several cars, now driverless, veered off course and crashed into nearby buildings with a roar.
Seeing this, Li Mochen's expression did not improve in the slightest. He noticed that those who had released the 'Dark Realm Talismans' were among the participants who had concealed their faces and kept their identities hidden.
These people were clearly trying to break away from the Light World before the Church could intervene. The Light Protestant Church, as the largest magical energy organization in America besides the government, wielded undeniable power and deterrence.
At this moment, a sense of helplessness surged within Li Mochen.
Since the battlefield had moved to the Dark World, there was nothing he could do. He could only hope that the black-haired girl would be lucky enough to turn misfortune into good fortune and come through safely.
Just as Li Mochen was about to head back to Lyndon Academy, he let out a surprised exclamation and looked toward a spot about three kilometers away.
In that direction, he sensed another powerful wave of magical energy spreading from east to west. Based on the propagation distance, it must have occurred less than two seconds ago, and its intensity was at the Outlaw level. In addition, faint gunfire drifted on the wind.
Li Mochen maintained the 'Fire Eye Peering into Truth' technique and peered in that direction. His expression changed, and his figure, like a bat gliding through the air, swiftly and nimbly darted toward that area.
While running, he casually grabbed a coat from a nearby balcony and draped it over himself.
...
Three kilometers away, Lena Aldrich's body crashed like a falling meteorite into the wall behind her.
The small civilian house had activated its defensive array at the first moment, but it could only hold out for a brief moment before the entire building collapsed. Lena herself smashed through the wall, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Blood gushed from Lena's mouth, but she forced herself upright within a single breath. She hastily uncorked a potion and poured it into her mouth, then, without a moment's delay, flew out again from the broken wall. She saw, about ten meters ahead, a black-haired girl struggling to maintain a pale golden shield, resisting the storm of sword light surging from the front.
It should have been a thin rapier, but it struck with the force of a battering ram. Each blow sent the black-haired girl staggering backward, leaving deep footprints in the ground. Her entire body was covered in a layer of frost.
The black figure behind the sword shadow constantly shifted positions, trying to flank the pale golden shield from both sides. But these attempts were perfectly thwarted by Angela Medici. The girl held twin guns, seemingly with an endless supply of bullets, firing continuously to both sides, spraying a dense barrage that forced the black-clad figure to retreat every time he tried.
Seeing this, Lena Aldrich's eyes turned bloodshot. She knew that Angela was fighting with her life to prevent the magical shadow from attacking her. She also knew that the situation could no longer be delayed. Angela's magical guns seemed to have unlimited ammunition, but the magical bullets simulated by the magic arrays had certain limitations. After every fifty shots, they needed to pause to recharge or replace the magic stones.
By now, the magical energy reserves in Angela's twin guns should be nearly depleted. Moreover, the girl's movements were growing increasingly stiff. The 'Ice Shock' that the opponent released repeatedly through the rapier could not be completely blocked even by Angela's quasi-artifact-level defensive device.
In this situation, even if the two twelfth-level magical guns 'Dual Shura' still had enough bullets, Angela herself would be unable to keep up with her opponent's movements in a few seconds.
