Chapter 90: The Bodyguard

Destiny's Dominion · 第九十章 保镖

Two floors of the Unicorn Apartments?

Angela behind him stirred slightly, filing away this information. She knew where the Unicorn Apartments were; from here, she could see most of the building, along with the unicorn logo at the top.

It had once been a place she considered using as a temporary residence, but unfortunately, the two vacant floors at the top had already been taken.

Li Mochen finally could no longer 'hold back'; he found he could no longer suppress the original owner's emotions.

“First, I think I’m qualified for a contract with Nathan Sports Group; second, what exactly are you trying to say with that sarcastic tone? Just get to the point, OK? Clever Jennifer?”

Jennifer’s face turned slightly green. “Don’t you ever think about their intentions? I don’t know what Dwight Payton’s goal is, but I’m a hundred percent sure he’s using you, Andre—”

“So agreeing to become Christian’s adopted son isn’t being used?”

Li Mochen sneered, cutting off Jennifer’s words, and cast a contemptuous sidelong glance. “Can you tell me what the difference is, Jennifer?”

“Being adopted by Uncle Christian can at least get you wealth worth over ten million gold shields, plus family fund shares worth forty million. And it can move you up to the top twelve in the family inheritance order.”

Jennifer’s gaze was icy. “The Nathan Sports Group sponsorship contract can’t give you any money beyond sports equipment. Think it over, Andre—this is your only chance.”

Li Mochen’s tone grew even more mocking. “So, for tens of millions of gold shields, I become someone else’s child and go through that so-called blood exchange ritual? The blood in my veins and the surname Li aren’t that cheap.”

“And the chance to become the head of the Wiltons!”

Jennifer’s delicate chin lifted slightly. “Don’t you want to investigate the truth behind Elena’s death? But without power, you can’t do anything.”

“Then sorry, I’m not interested.”

Li Mochen’s consciousness again gained the upper hand in his body, taking control. “I think if I gain your so-called power this way, even if I one day learn the truth, my parents won’t be happy in the afterlife.”

“Don’t push me, Andre.”

Jennifer took a deep breath, her breath icy cold. “Do you know that with just one phone call, I can make everything you cherish come to nothing?”

Li Mochen paused, then said thoughtfully, “You mean Rising Sun Company, right?”

Jennifer pressed her red lips together. “Looks like your brain hasn’t completely rotted. This is my last warning to you. I don’t want to destroy it myself, understand?”

“Ready to stoop to any means, are you? I despise you, Jennifer.”

Li Mochen casually waved his hand and strode down the steps. “If you can do it, then go ahead.”

Jennifer whirled around, watching Li Mochen’s back. Her gaze was cold, yet seemed to have a flame burning within.

“Wow! That look is so cool. No wonder so many girls at school like him—”

Angela beside him first let out an exclamation, then smiled as she chimed in, “Andre’s sister, right? I think you can’t do anything to him. As a bystander, I’d advise you as a friend: don’t make him angry. The consequences are hard to say.”

Jennifer turned angrily to the black-haired girl beside her. She was momentarily stunned by the girl’s stunning beauty, but then noticed that the girl’s clothes were all ordinary civilian brands, and her makeup was virtually nonexistent.

She shook her head slightly with a hint of disdain and also walked down the steps.

This was just a middle-class girl infatuated with Andre’s face—no need to bother with her; it would be beneath her dignity.

When Li Mochen returned to the duplex apartment, he found two sturdy men in suits already waiting at the door.

Just by looking at their faces, he knew who they were. He had seen them in the resumes provided by Carl Holton, and they were the two personal bodyguards—or rather, attendants—he had ultimately chosen.

The taller one was named Qi Tai, an Easterner and a ninth-level magic hunter.

Qi Tai’s resume mentioned that he had served three years in the Cobra Unit, with precise marksmanship—9A-level close-quarters shooting, 9S-level long-range sniping—and strong danger perception, skilled in setting and detecting traps. His weakness was that his close combat ability was only 9C.

Both the original owner and the current Li Mochen had a special affection for the ancient Eastern country, and Qi Tai’s abilities were exactly what he needed, so Li Mochen chose him first without hesitation.

The other was Brent Goodman, aged thirty-five, a magic paladin who believed in the Earth Goddess. His close combat ability was 9S, and he possessed 9B-level divine spellcasting, with surprisingly decent marksmanship at 9B.

Li Mochen felt he still needed a meat shield, and the divine spells Brent Goodman mastered could provide some small help at critical moments.

Both men had a good professional attitude—neither condescending due to Li Mochen’s youth nor overly deferential.

Brent Goodman was somewhat cold in personality, giving the impression of a taciturn, steady, and reliable man; Qi Tai was more enthusiastic and talkative, very attentive.

After entering, the first thing they did was help Li Mochen check the apartment’s security system and the condition of the magic array.

It must be mentioned that the Unicorn Apartments already had a powerful magical defense array to handle various possible incidents, even attacks from outlaws.

But after Nathan Sports Group bought these two floors, they added an extra magical protection array. This ensured that even if the dozens of floors below collapsed, this duplex luxury home would not immediately fall. It would slowly descend to the ground while maintaining strong protective capabilities throughout the process.

“We will work in two shifts to provide you with round-the-clock protection and service from Monday to Sunday. Considering you are a student and at school from Monday to Friday, we will be on standby in the apartment during the day on those five days, starting security at 5 p.m. The company has rented a room on the 32nd floor as our monitoring room and rest area, connected to your apartment via a dedicated line and passage. If you need anything, just press these red buttons. Also, if you have any extra plans during those five days, please notify us one day in advance.”

After checking the security system, Qi Tai continued to introduce their work: “On Saturdays and Sundays, we will accompany you at all times, as required by the company. Your contract should have corresponding clauses that you cannot refuse. Please understand—Nathan Group has invested significant resources in you and must see—”

Li Mochen had only heard this far when the phone in the living room suddenly rang. He had a premonition, walked over, and indeed heard a familiar voice on the line.

It was the senior lawyer from Caglen Law Firm who had received him before, whose name should be Bobby Garlson.

Jennifer was very fast, her execution ability unparalleled.
