Chapter 0376: Visiting the Set

Rebirth of a Perfect Future · 第0376章 探班

Comforting people was something Zhao Fusheng was really not good at. Men were naturally coarser than women, not as delicate. Besides, he truly didn't know how to comfort a heartbroken girl in her early twenties, especially when he didn't like her.

The balance was often hard to strike. If he went too far, he might be misunderstood; if he was too indifferent, she wouldn't feel his concern.

So Zhao Fusheng simply sent a message and let Dong Chenxi figure it out herself.

As for whether she would resign, Zhao Fusheng believed that if she was mature enough, she should understand that life and work didn't have to be mixed together.

Although he had helped her get into Future Advertising because of Wang Zhen, over the past half year, Dong Chenxi had won over the company with her actions.

At the very least, as Zheng Yao put it, hiring Dong Chenxi as an assistant had been a success.

Since she and Wang Zhen had broken up anyway, if she lost love and gave up her career too, wouldn't that be a total loss?

Having said what needed to be said, Zhao Fusheng couldn't be bothered to follow up on the matter.

He had his own things to handle. Liu Dehua had called to invite him to Hong Kong for the opening ceremony of Infernal Affairs, and Jiang Wen had also called, inviting him to the opening ceremony of Devils on the Doorstep.

After thinking it over, Zhao Fusheng declined Liu Dehua. After all, they were promoting it as saving Hong Kong cinema, and as a mainlander, he shouldn't get involved.

Even Huayi, which had invested a considerable amount, had only managed to squeeze Zhou Feifei and two other actresses into the cast. The rest of the crew were all from Hong Kong.

The three actresses were just vases with few lines.

Infernal Affairs, whether in its past or present life, was a men's drama.

"Brother Hua, I've written the script as best I could. If you think something's off, feel free to make changes, just let me know. As for the rest, I think you veterans don't need me, the screenwriter, to say anything." Zhao Fusheng said sincerely on the phone to Liu Dehua.

Heavenly King Liu was undoubtedly satisfied with Zhao Fusheng's attitude. After all, the reason he had invited Zhao Fusheng was largely because Zhao was the screenwriter; he couldn't not call him for the opening. But since Zhao declined, it was no longer his concern.

He could skip Hong Kong, but Zhao Fusheng planned to visit Jiang Wen's set.

At the very least, seeing how this great director and actor worked would be interesting.

Besides, there was nothing much to do at school lately. Wang Zhen's situation had put him in a bad mood, so he might as well take a trip to clear his head.

Seeing the truth of life and continuing to love it—that was the normal mindset.

Giving up on life or losing faith in it because of some things would be truly irresponsible to oneself.

The filming location for Devils on the Doorstep was in Qianxi, around the Xifengkou Great Wall area. Just thinking about the environment made Zhao Fusheng wince, but Jiang Wen kept calling him to come see it. After mulling it over, Zhao Fusheng had to agree.

They set a time, and after getting someone at school to inform the faculty, Zhao Fusheng left the school.

As for his parents, Zhao Fusheng felt he might really be adopted. When he said Zheng Yao was taking him on a business trip, after asking a few questions, his parents showed no reaction.

In his mother's words, they were busy now, and Zhao Fusheng was old enough to know what to do and what not to do.

And so, Zhao Fusheng boarded a green train heading inland.

Some people liked taking trains, saying watching the scenery was a pleasure. Zhao Fusheng could only say he probably lacked that artistic gene. Even sitting in a soft sleeper compartment with only two people, he still didn't find train rides enjoyable.

The reason was simple: the green trains of that era were too slow, like an ox pulling a cart, leisurely as if strolling by the fields. They stopped at every station, making time feel like it was crawling.

After nearly two days of travel, Zhao Fusheng finally found Qianxi County. The county was small, and the hotel was at the level of a guesthouse, but at least it was clean.

Having called ahead, when Zhao Fusheng arrived at the hotel, a man in his early twenties was waiting for him downstairs.

"Hello, you must be Teacher Zhao. I'm Zhang Hua, Teacher Jiang's assistant."

Zhang Hua was a bit older than Zhao Fusheng but treated him with respect, his polite attitude earning some goodwill.

Zhao Fusheng nodded. "I'm Zhao Fusheng. Call me Fusheng or Xiao Zhao, but don't call me Teacher—I can't bear it. By the way, where's Old Jiang?"

"Upstairs, working on the script. He heard you were coming and asked me to pick you up," Zhang Hua said.

That fit Jiang Wen's character. Zhao Fusheng carried his suitcase and followed Zhang Hua upstairs to a room. Opening the door, he saw Jiang Wen squinting his small eyes, sitting there lost in thought. The guy looked funny—big head, small eyes, and prominent ears.

Zhao Fusheng thought Jiang Wen looked a bit like a Martian.

"You're here?"

Hearing the noise at the door, Jiang Wen looked up, glanced at Zhao Fusheng, and said, "Have a seat. Let me think a bit more."

Zhao Fusheng blinked and nodded.

Zhang Hua, however, felt awkward and whispered to Zhao Fusheng, "Uh, Teacher Jiang is like this—he gets immersed when working on a scene."

Zhao Fusheng smiled. "It's fine, I understand."

Although he hadn't interacted much with Jiang Wen, he could tell Jiang Wen wasn't pretentious. It wasn't that he wasn't famous enough, but that he wasn't good at socializing and had to force himself into awkward pleasantries because of his role.

"Hey, what do you think of this part? Should I act it like this?" Jiang Wen suddenly looked up and handed Zhao Fusheng a piece of paper. Zhao looked down and saw it was a densely printed page, apparently from the script.

As he spoke, Jiang Wen began acting it out in front of Zhao Fusheng.

Zhang Hua was taken aback and looked at Zhao Fusheng differently. When he had picked up Zhao, he didn't know who it was; Jiang Wen just said a friend was coming and asked him to help.

At first, calling him Teacher Zhao was just politeness. After Zhao declined, Zhang Hua planned to call him Fusheng, since he was younger and might just be an actor.

But now, seeing this, Zhang Hua felt he should change his attitude toward Zhao Fusheng.

This was someone who could get Jiang Wen, that drama fanatic, to discuss acting with him!
