Chapter 0519 Going Home
Rebirth of a Perfect Future · 第0519章 回家
As it turned out, the saying 'a leopard cannot change its spots' still held a lot of truth.
Or, to be more precise, Zhao Fusheng had never misjudged Fan Baobao.
After hesitating for less than five seconds, Fan Baobao looked up and flashed a bright smile at Zhao Fusheng: "Buy the tickets. I'll go home with you."
Zhao Fusheng was taken aback: "Really?"
"Really," Fan Baobao said earnestly. "I miss Uncle and Auntie, and my mom and Beibei too. Let's go back and rest, then come back when school starts."
After a pause, she smiled and said, “But you have to pay for the train ticket, how about that?”
“Why take the train? Buy plane tickets.” Zhao Fusheng waved his hand: “If I’d known you were going back, my mom would definitely agree to us flying.”
Anyway, he’d let his mom take the blame; he wasn’t about to say he was paying for the plane tickets himself.
Fan Baobao thought for a moment, then nodded: “Okay, I’ll listen to you. We’ll fly.”
If it had been half a year ago, she definitely wouldn’t have been willing to fly. Now that the family’s financial situation had improved, plane tickets weren’t too expensive in the summer either; at worst, they could buy tickets for a later flight.
Zhao Fusheng smiled and agreed. He was about to go out and buy the tickets when Fan Baobao turned and went back to her room. When she returned, besides her ID card, she also handed Zhao Fusheng a bank card.
“The money from my commercial shoot is in there. Withdraw some to buy the plane tickets.” Fan Baobao looked at Zhao Fusheng and said softly.
"Huh?"
Zhao Fusheng was taken aback, then understood her meaning.
This girl was afraid he didn't have any money, so she was subsidizing him.
After all, in her eyes, he was just working at Zheng Yao's advertising company, living on a salary—how much money could he have?
After thinking it over, Zhao Fusheng didn't stand on ceremony with Fan Baobao. He nodded and accepted the bank card.
Seeing Zhao Fusheng take her bank card, Miss Fan was quite happy. She grinned and said to Zhao Fusheng, "Want me to go with you?"
Rolling his eyes, Zhao Fusheng said helplessly, "Look at those dark circles under your eyes. You'd better go to sleep."
Having stayed up late drinking last night, Fan Baobao now looked quite haggard. Although Zhao Fusheng didn't mind her bare-faced appearance, as soon as he mentioned it, Fan Baobao decisively gave up the idea of accompanying him to buy plane tickets and scurried back to her room.
Chuckling softly, Zhao Fusheng said nothing more and walked out the door on his own.
As he walked, he thought for a moment and dialed his mother's phone.
"What's the matter, son?" Mother Zhao was quite surprised to receive her son's call. They had just spoken on the phone not long ago, so why was Zhao Fusheng calling again? He wasn't the type to call just to chat.
Of course, the main reason was that long-distance roaming charges between provinces were quite high at the time, so Zhao Fusheng preferred to send text messages rather than make phone calls when he had something to say.
"Nothing much. Baobao and I discussed it, and she's coming back with me." Zhao Fusheng didn't beat around the bush. He kept it brief and told his mother about his and Fan Baobao's decision.
Clearly, Mother Zhao was very happy. She laughed incessantly on the phone and kept asking Zhao Fusheng when he would arrive home.
Zhao Fusheng explained that he and Fan Baobao planned to fly back. He had expected his mother to fret over the ticket prices, but instead she waved her hand magnanimously and said, 'Just pick whichever you like. Don't buy night tickets—buy daytime ones. Don't worry about the money; I'll reimburse you.'
Zhao Fusheng was stunned, completely taken aback. Before he could say anything else, his mother had already hung up.
Holding the phone, he didn't move for a long time. After thinking it over, he suddenly remembered that his mother's birthday was around the twentieth of August.
Her son and daughter-in-law were coming back to celebrate her birthday—no wonder she was so happy.
Thinking of this, Zhao Fusheng couldn't help but feel relieved that he had, by sheer luck, called Fan Baobao back. Otherwise, his mother would have been terribly upset.
A smile crept onto his lips. Shaking his head, he strode toward the nearby ticket agency.
On the way, he encountered an elderly beggar. In a good mood, he fished out ten yuan and placed it in the old man's bowl.
No matter what, whether the world treats you kindly or not, you must keep a kind heart. Doing so ensures a clear conscience and might even bring unexpected good fortune.
Though this might sound idealistic, after experiencing rebirth, Zhao Fusheng didn't find anything wrong with it.
It was just a small deed within his power—nothing he couldn't do.
He first canceled his previous tickets and then bought two new ones for the next day's noon flight to Ninghai. Although it cost nearly two thousand yuan, Zhao Fusheng didn't mind at all. Compared to going home for his mother's birthday, nothing else mattered.
Of course, Zhao Fusheng didn't use Fan Baobao's money; he used his own cash. With his mother's backing, he didn't have to worry about money.
When he returned to the apartment, Fan Baobao was still asleep. Without much ado, Zhao Fusheng went to his room and started packing.
By the time he finished packing, Fan Baobao and Zhou Yun had just woken up. Zhou Yun looked at his packed luggage, puzzled: 'What are you doing?'
Zhao Fusheng smiled: 'My mom's birthday is in a few days. Baobao and I need to go back and celebrate with her.'
'Huh?'
Not just Zhou Yun, but even Fan Baobao looked at Zhao Fusheng in bewilderment: 'Auntie's birthday?'
Zhao Fusheng chuckled inwardly, looking at Fan Baobao seriously: 'You didn't forget, did you?'
'Uh, well...' Fan Baobao hesitated. To be honest, she really didn't remember.
After all, even biological children don't always remember their parents' birthdays, even though parents clearly remember their children's.
'Sigh, my mom would be so sad if she knew,' Zhao Fusheng deliberately sighed, putting on a sorrowful expression.
Fan Baobao immediately panicked. After all, this was Auntie Zhao—the woman who had cherished her like her own daughter since childhood, and now her future mother-in-law. How could she have forgotten her birthday?
Just as she was about to apologize to Zhao Fusheng, she noticed the slight upturn of his lips and instantly realized that this hateful guy was deliberately messing with her.
With that thought, Fan Baobao snorted and looked at Zhao Fusheng: 'I'm going with Zhou Yun now to pick out a gift for Auntie. You keep it a secret for me, got it?'
Zhao Fusheng blinked, glanced at Fan Baobao, and knew his joke had been seen through. He grinned and nodded: 'Okay, got it.'
Zhou Yun watched the two exchange glances and shook her head helplessly: 'You two, do you have to be so in sync?'
Honestly, she really felt tormented by these two.
A single dog—life is tough.
