Chapter 0094: The Good Youth Who Acts Bravely for Justice

Rebirth of a Perfect Future · 第0094章 见义勇为好少年

Being a third wheel is really not a comfortable thing.

Zhao Fusheng hadn't felt it so strongly before, but only in the cafeteria, watching Hu Xia and Tan Kaixuan across from him being all lovey-dovey, did he realize how naive his original thoughts had been.

"Hey, you two, can you mind your manners a bit?" Zhao Fusheng said, watching Tan Kaixuan pick food for Hu Xia with a fawning look, while Hu Xia, though blushing slightly, gently took out a tissue to wipe his mouth. He immediately tapped the table in dissatisfaction, signaling to them that there was still a living person at the table.

Compared to the shameless Boss Tan, Hu Xia was after all a girl with a thin skin. She glared at Zhao Fusheng and said, "You, if you hadn't tapped, no one would have noticed us."

Pfft!

Zhao Fusheng had just picked up his mineral water to take a sip, but before he could finish, he choked. He looked up at Hu Xia and said, "Are you still the Hu Xia I know?"

"Why not?" Hu Xia glanced at him.

"The Hu Xia I know is easily shy, not as sharp-tongued as you..." Zhao Fusheng said helplessly.

Hu Xia was taken aback, then her face turned as red as an apple. She simply lowered her head to eat and ignored Zhao Fusheng.

When it came to bickering, Zhao Fusheng had never met his match.

Fan Baobao didn't count; when she couldn't win an argument, she would just resort to physical action.

"Alright, you two continue being sweet. I'm off." Seeing that he was almost done eating, Zhao Fusheng stood up and said to the couple, Tan Kaixuan and Hu Xia.

"Look at you, maybe I should walk you back to the dorm," Boss Tan said, but his lack of any movement to get up betrayed his true feelings.

Muttering to himself about valuing love over friendship, Zhao Fusheng waved his hand and strolled out of the cafeteria.

Since school officially started tomorrow, the whole campus was bustling. The most obvious difference between freshmen and seniors was that the former were curious about everything and liked to wander around campus, while the latter had no interest at all in appreciating the campus scenery.

After all, he had been here for at least a year; he had long seen everything worth seeing.

Zhao Fusheng quite enjoyed strolling around the campus, after all, a forty-year-old uncle returning to his youth always harbored a bit of sentimentality in his bones.

“Stop thief! Stop thief!”

The cry rang out, startling a few birds into flight; it also startled a large group of students.

Zhao Fusheng looked up and saw a man sprinting toward him, chased by two women who appeared to be mother and daughter.

“Huh?”

Blinking in surprise, Zhao Fusheng couldn't help but laugh. Such a rare sight had actually crossed his path.

In just a few seconds, as the man was about to rush past, Zhao Fusheng quietly stepped back a few paces, picked up something from the ground, and hid his right hand behind his back.

By the time he finished this action, the man had already charged close, shouting, “Get out of the way!”

Many people ahead screamed and dodged aside, and Zhao Fusheng did the same—except that just as the man was about to dash past, Zhao Fusheng, rather unscrupulously, stuck out his right leg.

When running at high speed, people tend to subconsciously ignore everything around them, especially when fleeing in panic without looking where they're going. Few notice their surroundings, so the man, caught off guard, was tripped by Zhao Fusheng's leg.

With a “thump,” the man—commonly called a thief, legally a burglar—fell flat on his face in a dog-eating-shit posture, letting out a scream, and the wallet in his hand dropped to the ground.

At that moment, he noticed the culprit who had tripped him: Zhao Fusheng.

Suddenly scrambling up, the thief buddy, without a word, pulled out a dagger and viciously stabbed at Zhao Fusheng.

Holy shit!

Zhao Fusheng was utterly dumbfounded. This guy didn't know how to play along at all! Shouldn't he have stood up, said a few tough words, threatened him a bit, and then made a move?

He just went straight for the knife—truly unconventional.

As this thought flashed through his mind, Zhao Fusheng's right hand was not idle; it shot out from behind him like lightning and slammed down toward the thief's arm.

"Bang!"

"Ah!"

The poor thief let out another scream, unable to hold onto the dagger any longer, and it clattered to the ground.

The reason was simple: anyone whose wrist was struck by an iron bar as thick as an adult's arm would likely react the same way.

Perhaps because it was the start of the semester, the school was renovating the benches on campus. What Zhao Fusheng had picked up was a bench slat, probably not yet welded in place, and he happened to grab it.

Seeing the thief pale and kneeling on the ground, Zhao Fusheng kindly reminded him, "Buddy, if you don't run now, people are coming."

Because in less than half a minute, the two women were about to catch up.

Before the thief could speak, a crowd of students had already surrounded him. After all, seeing him disarmed and injured, there were quite a few willing to act heroically.

Watching the thief swallowed by the crowd, Zhao Fusheng smiled faintly, tossed the iron bar aside, and walked away with his hands behind his back.

He didn't notice that not far away, a figure stood there in surprise.

...

...

For Zhao Fusheng, what had just happened was at most a small matter. He didn't mind occasionally playing the Good Samaritan, but he couldn't stand doing good deeds all the time.

In fact, if he had known the thief would dare to use a knife, Zhao Fusheng might not have been willing to help. After all, if he ended up the one down, he believed no one would grieve for him except his parents and the Fan family's three women.

The world was just that cold, and people's hearts were hard to fathom. Zhao Fusheng had seen too much ingratitude and heard too many tales of joy and sorrow. Now, he tried his best to wrap his heart in a hard shell.

One should not have the heart to harm others, but must have the heart to guard against them.

Perhaps this was the truest portrayal of Zhao Fusheng's inner world now.

"Zhao Fusheng?"

Just as Zhao Fusheng was about to reach the old library in Zone Four, a voice came from behind.

Turning around, within his line of sight, Mu Qingqing stood there gracefully, as radiant and moving as ever.

"Oh, if it isn't Miss Mu. What are you doing here?" Zhao Fusheng asked curiously.

Mu Qingqing was alone, which surprised him. Usually, she was either with a few classmates or her suitors. Zhao Fusheng had rarely seen Mu Qingqing by herself.

"Why didn't you stay?"

Mu Qingqing didn't answer Zhao Fusheng's question but instead asked him one.

Zhao Fusheng was taken aback, then realized she must have seen what just happened. He smiled lightly and said, "Isn't this fine too? The heroic students get rewards, the freshmen who lost things get them back, and the thief who broke the law is brought to justice—everyone's happy."

"But the one who should receive thanks is you. Without you, the thief would have gotten away long ago." Mu Qingqing frowned and said seriously.

Zhao Fusheng shook his head: "Many things aren't about right or wrong. When I stopped him, I didn't know he had a knife, nor did I expect thanks or praise. I just lent a hand casually."

"You're a good person." After a long pause, Mu Qingqing suddenly said.

Zhao Fusheng was startled, then shook his head: "Beautiful lady, can I refuse this label?"

Huh?

Mu Qingqing looked confused, clearly not understanding what Zhao Fusheng meant.

Hmm, seeing Mu Qingqing's expression, a flash of inspiration struck Zhao Fusheng—he suddenly thought of a good idea.
