Chapter 249: Burial Demon City

The Ultimate System · 第249章 葬妖城

The road, several zhang wide, was paved with blue bricks, flanked by a calm sea surface. Lin Fan felt as if something lurked beneath the water.

Of course, this was just a fleeting feeling; whether anything was actually there was hard to say.

“Make way… make way.”

Just then, an angry shout came from behind. Lin Fan turned, startled, and quickly stepped aside.

A carriage sped past, followed by a chorus of curses.

“Keep your voice down. That’s the carriage of the Yao family of Burial Demon City. Do you have a death wish?”

“Ah… no way?”

“What do you mean no way? Didn’t you see the five-claw mark on the back of the carriage? That’s the Yao family’s emblem.”

“Oh, oh, I didn’t notice. That was close.” A middle-aged man with a large sword on his back patted his chest in relief.

Listening to their discussion, Lin Fan grew curious. It seemed Burial Demon City was not so simple. But then again, any family that could establish a foothold in such a forbidden land couldn’t be ordinary.

He just wondered how many treasures this family had. Judging by the domineering carriage, they were clearly not good people.

As Lin Fan was about to enter the city, he was stopped by two men at the gate.

Lin Fan noticed their attire, with the same five-claw mark on their chests as on the carriage.

“What is it?” Lin Fan asked.

“To enter the city, pay the fee,” the two men in five-claw-marked clothing said arrogantly.

Passersby obediently handed over a thumb-sized, green-glowing crystal before entering.

“What are these things?” Lin Fan was at a loss. He had never seen them before. Where was he supposed to get one?

“Go on, go on. No money, no entry. Go work at the labor camp to earn the fee,” the two men said, pushing Lin Fan’s shoulder.

“It’s on me.” Just then, a woman in white appeared before Lin Fan, holding one of the green crystals.

Lin Fan was startled. How had he run into this woman again? Had she followed him all the way here?

But under the circumstances, it was better to enter than not. Ignoring her motives, Lin Fan nodded and quickened his pace into the city.

“What a coincidence. Why are you here?” Ye Han followed, smiling.

Lin Fan felt helpless. Was this woman stalking him? He couldn’t figure out what she wanted, but it couldn’t be good. He had to be on guard.

“Move aside…” Just then, Lin Fan heard another angry shout from behind.

Turning around, he saw a sect arguing with the fee collectors.

“No money, no entry,” the two guards shouted. Even if these were sect disciples, so what? Rules were rules.

“Hmph, what money? What are these green things? We don’t have any. Move aside,” a sect disciple said fiercely.

The sect’s leading middle-aged man raised his hand slightly. “Gentlemen, we are disciples of the Ten Thousand Dragons Sect. Please do us a favor.”

“Ten Thousand Dragons or not, everyone pays to enter. Otherwise, go to the labor camp and earn the fee.” The two men showed no respect for the sect.

The leading middle-aged man began to grow angry.

Lin Fan stopped to watch. The man’s cultivation was decent—mid-stage Lesser Heaven rank. He wondered what would happen.

“So you really won’t let us in?” the middle-aged man asked coldly.

“No.”

“How dare you…” In that instant, the man struck out. No one had ever been so insolent. They had traveled hundreds of thousands of li to get here; how could they be turned away?

“Boom…”

The two guards at the gate were sent flying by the man’s strike, unable to resist at all.

“Hmph, how presumptuous. The Ten Thousand Dragons Sect dares to charge us entry?” Wan Xiangtian said coldly.

“Enter.”

The Ten Thousand Dragons Sect disciples laughed scornfully at the two clueless guards. Their sect was a hegemon; when had they ever been stopped? Their elder had been polite, but the guards didn’t appreciate it—they had brought it on themselves.

Lin Fan stood there, watching what would happen next. Since Burial Demon City had a rule for entry fees, there must be a backing; otherwise, people wouldn’t pay so obediently.

Just then, an overwhelmingly powerful pressure descended from the void.

Lin Fan looked up, startled. The aura was incredibly strong—at least Greater Heaven rank.

“Anyone who comes to Burial Demon City must follow the rules.”

A voice came from the void, making everyone’s eardrums ache.

Then, a giant hand reached out from the void. It was as white as jade, wrapped in chains of shimmering light.

“Those are chains of law.” Lin Fan was shocked. This was the first time he had seen law. The vast, overwhelming aura was unmistakable.

As Lin Fan stood stunned, the giant hand grabbed the Ten Thousand Dragons Sect members like chicks and flung them toward the distant labor camp.

Then the giant hand vanished as if it had never appeared.

But those who witnessed it would never forget.

The newcomers who had tried to sneak in were terrified and turned back, obediently heading to the labor camp to earn the entry fee.

Lin Fan sighed inwardly. Luckily, he hadn’t resorted to force; otherwise, his fate might have been no better.

But until he figured out this woman’s background, he wouldn’t get too close to her.

“Let’s go,” Ye Han said with a smile.

Lin Fan glanced at her, slightly surprised. What was her background? She showed no tension, as if she were used to this.

Burial Demon City, built on the edge of a forbidden land, was indeed bustling.

Looking around, Lin Fan saw hardly anyone who wasn’t a martial artist. Everyone had cultivation, the lowest being at the Houtian realm; he saw none weaker.

Clearly, this was a city renowned for martial arts.

“What was that green crystal?” Lin Fan asked.

Ye Han looked at him and smiled. “That’s Burial Demon City’s currency. It doesn’t circulate outside. Anyone visiting for the first time must go to the labor camp to earn the entry fee.”

“You’re very familiar with this place?” Lin Fan found her increasingly mysterious.

“No, it’s just that my sect is familiar with it. I brought some before coming. But whatever you do, don’t provoke the Yao family here. They’re not to be trifled with. Let’s part ways here. Hope to see you again.” Ye Han waved and bid Lin Fan farewell.

Lin Fan watched her leave, more puzzled than ever. What was she thinking?

Unable to figure it out, he stopped worrying and began to wander around Burial Demon City.
